This in-depth Ha Giang adventure tour covers almost all the incredible unexplored sites of the epic Ha Giang, promising to grant you a truly memorable experience of natural, cultural and traditional aspects in the land. The 9-day journey walks you from the white highland in Bac Ha to the stunning terraced rice fields in Hoang Su Phi, from the peaceful hamlets of the Tay tribal community in Ha Giang to the exotic Dong Van Karst Plateau. It would be an arduous and long expedition but a rewarding lifetime experience as well.
Get ready before 8AM for a transfer to the “White Highlands” Bac Ha with its specific use as a “land of opium” during the 20th century on a 7-hour drive. Upon arrival, time for you to discover this land on foot.
Spend the morning visiting King Hoang A Tuong old palace and Bac Ha market. If Sunday, you will see a typically northwestern fair of Hmong people. Then head to Hoang Su Phi on a 4-hour drive. Enjoy the beauty of nature and the adventurous ups and downs of rugged roads. Lunch in the town of Coc Pai.
After lunch, start the drive up the mountain. Reach the top at Ban Phung village, home of La Chi people. After a short rest, afternoon is the best time to discover Ban Phung village on foot. Visit the La Chi ancient tomb, view the rice fields from the top of the mountain or see the romantic sunset. Great experience!
Today is saved for an off the beaten path 2-hour trek to discover Ban Phung.
Roaming through the jungle, encountering La Chi tribal villages or winding around the endless rice fields are what to be offered. Stop at a local school to interact with local children who welcome you with the warmest open arms.
After trekking, head to Hoang Su Phi township where lunch is served at a local restaurant. The rest of the day is a transfer by car to Nam Hong Village, home of the Yao people. Do not forget to catch the romantic sunset in the middle of the charming terraced rice fields at the end of the day.
Another 15-km trek gets your energetic day started with an array of trails winding through the endless rice terraces across Nam Khoa Village, a place inhabited by the Man Ta Pan ethnic group. This is a good place to admire the stunning view of the vast rice fields and discover the daily life of the inhabitants as well. A closer look into these special groups of Man Ta Pan and Long Tunics Dao people will surely live up your spectacular trip.
What’s more? Get ready to learn about the culture of the Red Yao people and visit tea plantations in Phin Ho Hamlet. Here, get to admire the enormous oldest Shan Tuyet tea trees across Vietnam and its essential uses in the lives of these inhabitants.
Head straight to Nam Ai after a short break. This is where the Long Tunics Yao call it their home. The differences between the Red Dao and the Long Tunics Dao would also be revealed by our guide during your enjoyable meal with the fresh home-made ingredients.
After an early wake up for sunrise, say good bye to this rural paradise and head for Ha Giang on a 3-hour drive. Take the rest of day discovering Tay villages with green emerald rice fields, Tay wooden stilt houses, mysterious palm forests or enjoying peace beside a local stream.
Explore the hidden parts of Ha Giang with a full day 17-18km trek. Start from a local Tay village, up the off-road trails, winding through wild forests and emerald terraced rice fields to reach the peak of the Tay Con Linh range, which is also the living place of Yao people. Time to enjoy the view from the very high. Lunch at a local Yao family.
After lunch, stroll down to the valley for the rest of trekking day. Finish the trek in a Tay village after almost 7-hour off the beaten path. A 1-hour drive then transfers you to Quan Ba district. Here you can better your experience by doing an overnight homestay in a unique traditional Yao house made from clay.
Wandering around the Red Yao tribal village on foot to kick start your energetic day. Take this chance to fully learn what’s special behind the traditional lifestyle and culture.
After that, continue the drive to Dong Van. Have a short walk on the way to some isolated Hmong villages after lunch in Yen Minh.
Finish the day with a visit to the ancient Palace of a Hmong King before arriving in Dong Van. If time permits, freely enjoy another 20-minute walk to enjoy the panoramic sunset on the top of a closeby mountain, where a vacant French fortress is found.
Begin the day with a visit to Dong Van market. If Sunday, chance to see a traditional fair of the Hmong people.
Then start to hike up the mountain to the edge trail looking down to Nho Que valley where there is a magnificent view of the mighty mountainous border with China. Reach an isolated Tay village after a 7-km hike. There you can see life of Tay people with their typical clay house. Back to Dong Van on the same route for lunch.
After lunch, a 20-min drive transports you to the trekking point of Ma Pi Leng pass. Now make sure you are not amazed by the glorious beauty of this top-of-the-world destination. This 2-hour walk leads to the top of the pass, through some local Hmong villages and ends after a stroll via a corridor on the edge of the mountain looking down Tu San valley. After a short break to appreciate the natural beauty, continue another 2-hour drive to Yen Minh via Meo Vac.
On the last day of this tour, make a farewell to this rural paradise of Yen Minh and head back to Hanoi.
